Message things happening with countersteer at the higher speeds. Get that part of the equation wrong and you'll find yourself doing a pirouette when making a simple lane change on the highway. You might induce some kind of oscillation in that scenario - too much countersteer from HICAS causes the car to yaw into a spin situation, so you countersteer into the spin only to find that HICAS has beat you to the punch and possibly working against you by amplifying your steering inputs through its countersteering causing you to snap into spin in the other direction, and so on. For that matter, I do think that Nissan got it right and this is where I would say don't mess with it (IMO).

I might be wrong but I believe the speed sensor that HICAS relies upon is also used for other functions (cruise control, variable power steering effort, ECU, etc.). Assuming a resistor would work, you would need to be careful that you do not cause problems with these other functions. But I believe njz is correct, speed sensors are generally pulse signal generators which would likely rule out any idea of splicing a resistor in line.

More than likely, you would need to go into the HICAS control unit and isolate the circuit/chip that receives the speed sensor signal. You might be able to change a resistor value somewhere on the board that would possibly change how it reads the speed sensor value and "trick" it into thinking it's always below a certain speed.

Another thought...conZult has a HICAS diagnostics program that allows you to check the system function while the car is stationary. I'm not sure if there is a way to control HICAS through conZult while the car is in motion but this might be a way to see if you can prove out the theory of full-time countersteer. I have no confirmation that this will work but it may be worth investigating.

Lastly, hit up DVDBURN and see if he has any ideas on this. He's pretty good in this department and could be of some assistance.

Good luck,

Dave
